Cambridge, Mass based Sneaker boutique, Concepts, is back at it again with another retro-runner collaboration with Asics. This latest offering from Concepts and Asics comes in the form on the "8 Ball" Gel Lyte 5, which borrows its theme from the movie, Blow, which stars Johnny Depp, who plays the part of George Jung, a 1970's American Drug smuggler. The off-white base used on the upper of the "8 Ball" GL5 is used to symbolize the drug of choice in the film, which is cocaine, while red hits are used on the midsole and outsole to symbolize blood which was shed often in the drug trade. The "8 Ball" Gel Lyte 5 also features some well placed 3M hits that can be found bordering the asics logo on the lateral side while the entire Asics logo on the medials are comprised of all 3M to add some extra flare. The Concepts x Asics Gel Lyte 5 "8 Ball" will also include a set of grey flat laces with 3M hits, along with 3 sets of rope laces. We can also expect to see some sort of special packaging or presentation for the release, this is usually somewhere Concepts sets themselves apart from the rest of the crowd on their collaborative efforts.
The Concepts x Asics Gel Lyte 5 "8 Ball" is set to release this Friday, January 30th, at 7PM in-store at Both, the Cambridge, Mass store and NYC location. The "8-Ball" will also be available online at www.cncpts.com at 7PM EST with an expected retail of $160. Stay tuned for any additional updates leading up to Friday's release of the latest Concepts x Asics collaboration.
