Today's look back at a previous Ronnie Fieg x New Balance collaboration takes us back just about a year ago to Black Friday of last year. The RF x NB 1600 "Daytona" released last year on Black Friday exclusively in-store and online at Kith NYC, but also saw a worldwide release at select New Balance retailers a few weeks later. The RF x NB "Daytona" was based of the memory of a young Ronnie Fieg and his family trips to Daytona Beach, Florida, and the beautiful scenery that can be found there. The "Daytona" 1600 upper is broken up into three uniquely colored sections, all of which feature a different style of perforated suede or leather. The heel of the sneaker features the use of smooth tan perforated leather which transitions nicely into the rich off-white nubuck saddle, which also utilizes perforations throughout. The "Daytona" 1600 is rounded out nicely with the use of a pig skin suede navy blue toe, which again continues to use perforations throughout to add subtle detailing to the sneaker. Hits of both Navy Blue and Pink can be seen used throughout the upper of the "Daytona" 1600, some of which utilize 3M to give the sneaker some reflective detailing. Things are rounded out with a matching off-white tan nubuck tongue with reflective "NB" and "1600" logos, as well as a Pink and Navy Blue cotton sock liner and co-branded Kith and New Balance insoles. Every RF collaborative effort usually comes with a nice choice of laces and the "Daytona" 1600 does not disappoint. The stock laces which are a rope lace made up of navy blue, pink, and white hits, tie together the colors used throughout the upper, while a couple additional sets of co-branded solid white, and solid beige flat laces are also included.
The Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 1600 "Daytona" turned out to be a premium piece of footwear, I still am blown away by how plush the materials used on the upper are. Some may argue that the colorway of the sneakers, and more specifically the use of pink accents, made them lose interest in the sneaker, I however take the completely opposite side of the argument and think the colors worked extremely well together and were able to portray the original idea behind the sneaker well. A big push behind the "Daytona" were the use of premium materials, materials which definitely did not disappoint and really helped bring this sneaker to life. Needless to say the Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 1600 "Daytona" was an immediate sellout on Black Friday and are still extremely sought after for many Ronnie Fieg and New Balance fans alike.
